Mr. Baney (Head Coach)
I couldn't be more excited to be teaching at Kickapoo High School! As a Kickapoo alumnus, I know that it truly is the best high school in the nation and I take great pride in coaching the Speech & Debate program. While I was a student at Kickapoo, I was very active in both the Speech & Debate and Theatre programs (performing in plays, musicals, building sets, and competing in Humorous Interp, Duo Interp, Policy Debate, Lincoln-Douglas Debate, and Public Forum Debate). Graduating from KHS in 2008, I knew that I wanted to teach. I graduated in 2011 with my BSED in Speech & Debate/Theatre from MSU, where I worked tech for the theatre productions. In 2010, I was asked to return to Kickapoo's Speech & Debate program as the assistant coach, and I knew instantly that this is what I am meant to do. I am a very driven individual, and I know that anything is possible with enough dedication, hard work, and a positive attitude. I plan on continuing my education, starting my MA in Communication summer of 2013, while taking undergraduate courses in Foreign Language and ASL. I love learning new languages and traveling the world. I hope to learn and teach for a lifetime; and to encourage my students to become lifelong learners and leaders. Nothing makes me happier than to see my students succeed, embrace literature, and get excited about real world issues. One of my goals as a Speech & Debate coach is to expose my students to the world around them--letting them see what they do not like about it, and empower them with the tools to articulate their ideas and change it.

Ms. Huntley (Assistant Coach)
I am thrilled to start teaching at Kickapoo High School this year, but I am even more excited to be the assistant coach of the Kickapoo Speech & Debate Program! I graduated from Glendale High School in 2005, and I attended Missouri State University for both my undergraduate and graduate degrees. In 2009, I graduated with a BSED in English Education, and in 2011, I graduated with a Master's in English with an emphasis in Literature. Though my background is primarily in English, the skills developed in that content area--close reading, inference and analysis, argumentation and persuasion--have greatly improved my teaching of debate and forensics. During my first three years of public school teaching, I worked at Logan-Rogersville High School and served as the head Speech & Debate Coach. In my time there, students qualified to MSHSAA State and NFL competitions each year, and in 2013, the LR team was the State Champion in Policy Debate. Of all the required and elective classes Kickapoo offers, I sincerely believe that the skills students learn in Speech & Debate are of the most use of them in the real world. My goal is to help facilitate an articulate, intelligent, and impassioned group of students in any field they desire to work.
Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, binding together people, citizens of distant epochs, who never knew one another. Books break the shackles of time. A book is proof that humans are capable of working magic.”

Mrs. Reeves (Assistant Coach)
It brings me great joy to be a part of the Speech and Debate program at Kickapoo High School! This is my third year teaching at Kickapoo High School, and, though I fulfilled the role of Assistant Debate Coach during the 2015-2016 school year, my role this year as Assistant Coach will be much larger. I graduated from Missouri State University in December 2014 with a B.S. in English Education, and I currently teach English I, English III, and Intro to Speech at Kickapoo. I spent my high school years in Debate at Glendale High School under the direction of Bill Jordan (he's a bit famous in the Debate world). He taught me how to think critically, prepare thoroughly, and speak confidently - how to balance a competitive nature with an empathetic personality. I gained more vital life skills in Speech and Debate than I did in any other aspect of high school, and I will always look fondly on those years. I have such a passion for this program that I can't wait to instill in our students. They will gain life long friends and the skills needed to be competent participants in their future professions and globally conscious citizens in an ever-connected world. I am confident that our students can change the world, and I will do everything I can to help them acquire the tools and knowledge to do so. Go Kickapoo Chiefs!
